At Shallow Creek Stables, we believe riding teaches more than technique — it builds life skills. Alongside horsemanship, our lessons help students develop qualities they'll carry with them well beyond the arena.

Lesson Levels

Shallow Creek Stables offers individualized riding instruction for riders at every stage, with lessons shaped around each student’s skills, goals and development.

Beginners

Beginner lessons focus on safety protocols, basic horse handling and grooming, tacking up, mounting, balance and the fundamentals of riding. Students also begin learning how to communicate clearly with the horse and develop confidence both on the ground and in the saddle.

EXPLORE YOUR PATH

Intermediate

Lessons focus on refining flatwork, introducing equitation principles and developing more balanced communication between horse and rider. Lessons progress according to each student’s physical and emotional development and can begin to focus more closely on the rider’s chosen discipline.

Partial leasing of a horse may be encouraged at this stage.

Advanced

For experienced riders seeking greater precision, independence and competition readiness. Lessons focus on refining flatwork, jumping, course management and performance within their chosen discipline. Instruction is adapted to each rider’s physical, emotional and intellectual development.

Dressage emphasizes harmony, balance, collection and body control between horse and rider. Riders learn to execute structured patterns of movement with precision and communication.

Western instruction focuses on precision, subtle communication and control. Riders may work toward Western Pleasure and Horsemanship patterns and competition skills.

Riders interested in jumping and course work can develop balance, position, control and navigation skills for hunter and jumper disciplines.

SHOWMANSHIP IN HALTER & IN-HAND

Students can also learn to present and handle a horse from the ground, with emphasis on grooming, positioning, control and presentation.
